So when she asked me to try again, I was nervous. Insecure. Give me a person to photograph, and I can rock it. Ask me to make a video, and I want to quickly yet quietly walk away. I was a photographer, not a videographer.
In the last year, I finally feel like myself again. I look forward to the moments. I laugh more. I shoot more.
Yet it's not "wild." It's not "untamed." This land, this land is alive. It is breathing.

I knew it was important to me to photograph this. Why? I guess my need for preservation.
We plucked them, gutted them so they wouldn’t rot during transport and sieged them over the fire to get the remaining of the feathers off.
I am now looking for my brand. What I want my work to say about me. I learned so much in those three hours and I am forever grateful. I still have so much to learn but it's a start and it helped push me into the right direction.
It can be so cold and dark in the winters that it’s hard to book sessions or find the inspiration to go out shooting… but there are days when the sun is shining all night and the geese are flying around or the northern lights will be dancing and I have a moment where I realize that this is exactly where I am meant to be.
I have ideas for another way to shoot something like this, and now I also have a model who is willing to work with me again, who trusts me to honour both her regalia, and her image as an Indigenous woman.
I was shifting through them, and was amazed at the stories they were sharing. Indigenous women, who look to the camera and see a way to express their story, their passion, their relationships with their Indigenous heritages. It was humbling.
