Since mid August I’ve been stuck in a creative rut. I could justify my actions with many excuses and reasons but in all honesty I just didn’t have the urge to pick up my camera and take photos. Moments like this seem to come and go in my life, especially with my tendency towards episodes of melancholia. Thank goodness for this collective because it keeps me shooting. Knowing that I had a post to prepare for today, I left it until the last minute. I do this a lot. The past couple of weeks I knew the post was coming but there was a heaviness in my heart. Instead of allowing this to consume me, I decided that I wanted to make a photo series that would make me giggle and maybe even get you laughing. Because laughing feels good.
Here are a few photos I took of my sons and their friend wearing my unicorn mask. Did I mention that I love unicorns? I am a child of the 80s.

Charming images, and I hope they’ve broken your rut?

There is just something refreshing about unicorns. Nostalgia perhaps? The smiling thought of being born in the late 80s. When you stand at the edge of a time so special to you, sometimes you want it back.

Hate that you’re in a rut, but I’m glad to see I’m not the only one! This too, shall pass!! Smile!

Yes being stuck in a rut is terrible. However, being motivated and preservation will help. A leap of faith will do also.

I know how you feel with the creative rut, the best of us have been there! I always imagine an art project for myself, but begin to put my abilities down and I begin to worry that my idea will not be portrayed correctly. The trick is to just keep working through it, and eventually you will build up enough experience to be able to whip out whatever creative idea comes to mind, and they will begin to flow to mind much more fluently.

When I’m in a rut I find my motivation again. Like what I started with I tend to finish. Even if I procrastinate. I think eventually this will lead me somewhere.
